Unit Overview:
This unit examines the various blockchain frameworks and the utility of blockchain applications in taxation. It reviews the potential impacts on stakeholders and assesses the expected outputs of blockchain taxation applications. It reviews the role of decentralised peer to peer consensus in taxation and the current and possible future blockchain business models. The technical aspects of network, functional, technical and compliance requirements are also appraised as well as illustrating the type of input documents for the use of blockchain in taxation. The possible role of blockchain in SME and large business is also evaluated by reviewing the organisational transition concepts, human resources implications, and the blockchain governance models that can affect organisations. Trust and system inter-operability with existing taxation systems are reviewed as well as smart contracts and taxation documents in blockchain mode. Technology options in decentralised processing networks, distributed ledger, digital signatures and programmable logic are reviewed along with technology, strategic and ethical issues.
