 Unit Overview:

Students will acquire advanced knowledge and a deep understanding of culture, cross-cultural management, organisational and managerial approaches, and how to use that knowledge in international human resources management and other aspects of multinational business operations. After completing this unit, students will have a solid grounding in cross-cultural studies from a social, managerial, organisational and professional perspective.

Students will learn the determinants and dimensions of culture, regional differences in business culture, variations between professional cultures, and how organisational culture may affect managerial styles and corporate strategy. The role of individuals, small, large and virtual teams, in an organisational cultural context is examined. The unit’s learning content includes reviews, critiques, analysis and application of several cultural, behavioural and leadership theories. Students will discuss the emotional, attitudinal and cultural factors that can affect an individual, a team or an organisation when dealing with cross-cultural management issues.

In this unit, students will learn to use different analytical tools and theoretical models to enhance and enable managerial and strategic decisions. Students will research, analyse, present, and report sociocultural aspects of countries, regions, nations, industries, professions, and business entities. This will equip them with the knowledge and skills to deal with cross-cultural issues across business situations and activities, such as business negotiations, new market entry, outsourcing, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), foreign direct investments (FDI), strategic alliances (SA), and external partnerships (EP). After completing this unit, students will be skilled in proposing business strategies and multifaceted solutions and able to make managerial decisions based on cross-cultural facts while avoiding assumptions and cultural stereotypes.
