 Unit Overview:
This is the first of two capstone subjects in the MBA. Part of the cumulative and integrated approach to creating and using business knowledge, Applied Business Consulting utilises the skills, theory and experiences gained in previous subjects. This subject has three integrated elements: 
a) The application of accumulated knowledge gained in course (weeks 1-8) 
Students will be required to demonstrate consolidated knowledge gained throughout the MBA course and to develop their capacity to deploy this learning in solving business problems. Using a commercially-sourced business strategy game, teams of students will make management decisions for a company in an on-line competitive environment. 
b) Critical evaluation of consulting reports (weeks 6-12) 
Drawing on their skills developed in previous subjects, students will acquire new knowledge and skills related to business consulting. Specifically, this element requires students to transition from prior exposure to academic research to research carried out in practice within a business consulting environment. In this subject students will examine and critically evaluate available reports prepared by experts and consultants for the purpose of learning how research and report preparation is undertaken within a professional environment. Facilitated by IMC’s alliance with PricewaterhouseCoopers, students will gain access to reports that have involved applied research. Such reports will include independent expert reports (M&A, valuations, divestments, scheme of arrangements), industry analysis reports, forensic investigations and business plans. The process of data gathering, data verification, data analysis and synthesis, the development of strategic advice, report writing, communication and presentation will be examined and evaluated by students working individually. Students will develop fundamental project management skills applicable to undertaking consulting projects in preparation for the follow-on capstone subject where students will engage with an actual consulting project. 
Applied Business Consulting is a foundation for TMGT Business Consulting Project. 
c) Personal reflection and career development (weeks 1-12) 
Students will reflect on their own develop in the MBA and their career plans as preparation for a transition to the workplace. Students are expected to also reflect on their enhance self-awareness, and interpersonal effectiveness by working in teams, capacity to influence and learn from others, abilities related to managing conflict, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills. To assist students to develop their reflective learning skills and – most crucially, the habit of proactive reflection – students will keep a reflective learning log throughout the final MBA year. Students will complete two modules: Reflective Skill Development Module and Career Development Module.

TMGT605 Global Business Environment
Subject Description 
The globalisation of markets provides both challenges as well as opportunities for firms seeking to engage in international business. This course will contribute to the program by providing students with the essential knowledge required to understand the global business environment. Specifically, the course provides a systematic analytical framework of the global business environment that encompasses economic and international trade theories; government policies and national differences in political, economic, cultural and ethical systems. Building on an understanding of the global business environment, organisational strategies for multinational companies are reviewed with a view to understanding how to capitalise on global market opportunities.
