Unit Overview:
This unit primarily deals with the complex array of laws and regulations which govern the sports industry, including sports played at professional level, as well as social and amateur sport. The aim of the unit is to introduce students to the legal environment in which the Australian sporting industry operates. The legal framework is examined by reference to the main parties involved: players, managers, administrators and supporters. The unit supplements students’ in knowledge of law which they have already studied eg tort law, contract law and commercial law, but takes a more focussed approach on the specific legal issues which arise for resolution and the ways in which the law resolves these issues when they arise in the context of professional or amateur sport.
