 Unit Overview:
This unit introduces students to the core principles of effective database systems, focusing on how data is organised and managed for optimal use by applications and users. In this unit, students will become adept in SQL, a critical language for data retrieval and modification. They will also understand the importance and challenges of proficient database design and management, essential for developing functional software applications.In addition to technical skills, this unit emphasises professional expectations, teamwork dynamics, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills. Students will also gain an initial experience in technology building in the context of programming.The unit also examines IT ethics, working as part of a team and professional communications. It evaluates basic IT fundamentals in databases as well as the role of infrastructure and cybersecurity in database design.The course will cover key topics such as database principles, data modelling, SQL usage, and introductory programming concepts related to database management. Ethical issues, data security principles, and effective professional communication will also be key components of the unit.
