Wellbeing

IMC is committed to providing and maintaining a healthy, friendly and collaborative environment for all students. Student Services can help students adjust to a new environment, deal effectively with personal situations and advocate on behalf of students. We can assist students with issues such as:

  • Personal/cultural problems, such as stressful circumstances or emotional issues which interfere with your studies
  • Decision making, interpersonal issues and personal behavioural patterns
  • Incidents of sexual assault, harassment, bullying and discrimination against or by students/staff
  • Attendance difficulties
  • Administrative problems or complaints
  • Classroom conflicts
  • Adjustments to your studies
  • Guidance on academic progress, resume writing and future career pathways

Mentor Program

Our Mentor program is organised by IMC Student Services which provides students with assistance and guidance in various areas. While mentors can utilise this opportunity to pass their valuable experience to other participants and strengthen their skills such as leadership and communication, members of the program can also gain useful suggestions from their mentors which may help them overcome certain obstacles they face during their daily lives as well as in studies.

Benefits of becoming a mentor:

  • Improve your leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Get recognised and receive a certificate
  • Receive a recommendation letter from your school regarding your participation
  • Gain skills to include on resume and enhance your employability
  • Increase confidence, develop intercultural skills and experience
  • Make new friends and widen your networks

Who can be a mentor?

  • Any student who is in their second year of their undergraduate course or the second semester of their postgraduate course
  • Someone who has enough time and motivation to commit during the program
  • If you have an interest in developing leadership and communication skills
  • If you have a positive attitude and are willing to help

Preventing Sexual Harassment

IMC is dedicated to fostering a secure, inclusive, and tolerant atmosphere where students can thrive while studying in Australia and reach their academic goals. It is anticipated that students will actively collaborate with IMC and its staff to preserve this environment, demonstrating maturity and responsibility, as well as extending respect to fellow students, educators, associates of IMC, and all local businesses in South Eveleigh. IMC is resolute in its mission to prevent, address, and take corrective measures in cases of unlawful harassment and violence while also extending comprehensive support to all students.

IMC has zero tolerance for sexual assault, harassment, bullying and discrimination against and by students. Our policy is clearly set out in the Bullying Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Policy and Procedure. All students and staff are expected to share responsibility for contributing to a safe, inclusive and healthy campus environment in accordance with Code of Conduct for Students and Staff Code of Conduct.

Individual Counselling Services are also available

IMC Student Services provide a free and confidential counselling service. Our counsellor can help students adjust to their new environment, deal effectively with difficult personal situations and advocate on behalf of students.

It is important for you to know that you are not alone in dealing with the pressures you may face as part of your studies. There are a lot of IMC staff members that are willing to offer guidance and support if required. Our Student Services, Academic and Administration teams have an open-door policy and are willing to talk to you about any matters you may be facing.

Our student counsellor can also provide students with short-term (1-6 sessions) individual counselling sessions, which may help with the following issues:

  • Stress, anxiety and mood management
  • Motivational support
  • Post-trauma distress
  • Family/social relationship conflicts
  • Homesickness and cultural disorientation
  • Psychotic break
  • Suicide ideation
  • Referral to external specialised counselling services

We provide free and confidential counselling services in a comfortable and private environment. Our counsellor also can refer you to more appropriate services available.
