 Unit Overview:
This unit is an overview of the financial technologies presently innovating the way money is managed by institutions and consumers. Students will investigate the disruptive effect financial technologies is having on traditional practices in advanced economies, and the impact financial technologies are having on mobile financial services in developing economies through access to low-cost smartphones. The topics introduce and review the latest developments in financial technologies, including blockchains, bitcoins, big data, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and mobile banking. Advanced and specialist study in these areas is available in later units in this course.
