Unit Overview:
This unit primarily deals with the legal rules, principles and institutions regulating domestic relationships, including marriage, divorce, division of property, parental responsibility, orders in relation to the children regulated by family law.The aim of the unit is to provide students with an introduction to the complex legislative framework regulating domestic relationships in Australian law, as well as the various dispute resolution processes employed in the family law jurisdiction. As this area of law is prone to regular and often dramatic change and amendment, students will be encouraged to develop critical and reflective skills in relation to existing law and potential future law reform.
