 Unit Overview:
This unit introduces students to the principles of applied research. It examines the development of research projects through the application of research methodologies. The unit compares the various forms of research and provides students with an opportunity to develop a problem statement, research objectives and a conceptual framework for a selected business issue. It covers the various types of data, data collection methods, research methodologies and the development of a literature review. It also examines the most important statistical techniques used to analyse data and to present research findings to an audience. The unit culminates in the production of a research report including the collection and analysis of basic primary data. The unit also explores the value of research in business decision making and engages with essential research skills, covering research design, implementation and presentation. Ethical issues affecting research are also addressed as well as the role of research in the contemporary information technology landscape.
