The unit introduces students to the fundamentals of computer science and information systems, their use, and various related management and design considerations within the business world based on the use of computers. The unit provides students with an advanced understanding of the role that computing plays in modern organisations, how they enable organisations to improve efficiency and effectiveness, as well as how they evolve to address dynamic needs. The unit also covers the fundamentals of computer operations, networking and the principles of problem solving adopted by IT professionals. The unit provides an opportunity to examine IT governance and organisational issues as well as the ethical considerations associated with computing.The ICT profession and its main social and professional roles are also analysed.Students will also gain advanced and integrated knowledge using computing applications for solving complex business problems, managing data and the use of software tools. It will also provide an opportunity to develop methods to capture relevant business data and analyse it to support decision making within organisations.The unit will also provide an understanding of how the various elements of computing interact with one another in a distributed and networked environment including the cloud. |
